Triangular gable windows are also expensive. The neighbors have just bricked up their gable side and had two regular windows installed because of that. I wouldn't replace the windows, but I would have them completely serviced. New seals already make a big difference.

From what I have read in the districts, the price should be okay. It's not just the material, but also everything around it including installation. Whether you have to have wood again? I have never missed it and have treated myself to other nice things with the money saved. But with existing wooden windows, which hopefully are still in good condition, I would seriously consider new panes. This should reduce the price to a four-digit amount with not much worse insulation values compared to new windows.
