Hello,

for design reasons, we plan to partially clad the ETICS facade with wooden slats (maybe 10% or less). The slats should be a maximum of 10 cm wide with a gap of 5 cm between them at a height of 2 m. The length up to 3 m.

1. Since a steel substructure probably has to be attached to the exterior wall (Ytong + ETICS), could there be problems regarding thermal bridges?
2. Which wood is recommended (can of course also be colored) and how should it be protected against weather influences?
3. What distance is required between the wooden slats and the ETICS? Since the facade is to be painted in the future, it would have been good to be able to remove the wooden slats or the entire substructure.

Thank you very much.

1) With Ytong, the ETICS system is unnecessary. You only need to make the block thick enough. From 30 cm it works to comply with the Energy Saving Ordinance, from 36.5 cm KFW 55 is achievable. 2) So, reconsider the wall construction, because then the battens would be attached directly to a counter-batten on the wall. And no thermal bridges are possible. Also, attaching awnings or similar things is much easier later on. 3) Larch is used as wood. It can turn gray and thus protects itself.

Are you talking about a new building or an old building, that is existing property? In new construction, the approach is completely different..,

For aesthetic reasons, the wooden slats applied to the facade or to the ETICS (you probably mean Rhombusleisten?) appear to me like foreign objects. Please plan them as flush as possible = integrate them into the facade instead of attaching them like foreign bodies. I am currently seeing both a very positive and a corresponding negative example in our construction area (attached looks sh**ty, integrated looks great.)

At our place, the ETICS was omitted exactly there, and a wooden batten construction supports the rhombus cladding.

I just went out into the cold especially for you to back this up with example pictures ;)

By the way, the houses are almost right next to each other ...

1. Example of how I would never do it. Ugly as sin.
2. Very stylish. However, brick + wood.
