Wood block forgotten above the house entrance (for roofing)

Hello everyone,

first of all, I am actually quite satisfied with our house construction company. There were no major problems (construction supervisor from [Bauherren-Schutzbund] was involved during the construction phase.) We built a city villa. The house handover was a few weeks ago. The exterior wall is a lightweight expanded clay large-panel wall (approx. 16 cm) and thermal insulation (approx. 16 cm) of thermal conductivity group 035. On top of that, a silicone resin plaster.

Now, we did not include an entrance canopy in the construction contract because we wanted to make that decision later or install it ourselves. However, the construction company had suggested installing a solid wooden block above the entrance so that the entrance canopy can be attached there later. But they apparently forgot to install this wooden block (this is currently being clarified). If it really was forgotten, I now have the following question:

Is it possible to install an entrance canopy without this wooden addition? The concrete will easily hold the weight with the appropriate anchors. But the screws will always have some play in the insulation. With wind, weather, and snow, I can imagine that over the years the anchor/the screws will wear down the concrete more and more and the canopy will eventually no longer sit firmly or will wobble.

What do you think? Should I insist on a retroactive installation? But that would mean the exterior facade would have to be opened up again. Or will it hold firmly without the wood and I can spare myself the additional construction work (the costs for the wooden block will, of course, be deducted)?

Many thanks in advance.

Regards

That should not be a problem when you look at which awnings are nowadays mounted exactly like that and still hold in the wind. Keyword injection mortar: Fischer even offers special systems where the insulation around the hole is specially milled away so that it has no contact and later breaks off. You should be able to easily attach a usual canopy to that.

A good tip with the awnings and the injection mortar. My wish is also not to have the facade ripped open again. I will also ask the site manager again and then leave it as it is. Maybe I will rather have the installation of a future canopy done by a professional. They will know how to do it properly with this wall type (concrete + insulation).

Even though I understand the procedure, I would always hire a professional for such work. It doesn't come down to a few euros when building a house. Besides, honestly, I don't quite understand what the wooden block would have improved, because in the worst case, the block along with the porch roof would break off if it is not anchored in concrete.

Exactly! Otherwise, you can also get advice from the company Würth about what mounting systems are available. The type of fastening also depends a lot on the shape of the roof. Some have a support underneath, others hang on ropes. And still others are self-supporting.

You do not necessarily have to attach the entrance canopy to the house - instead, two posts next to the house would certainly be possible - your construction company should possibly also install these as a goodwill gesture.
