Hello

We are currently in the final sprint of building our house. Now we have realized that our window sills cannot be painted in the window color or that, according to the architect, this will not hold.

Window sills made of anodized aluminum were planned. Upon closer inspection of the sills, I am no longer sure that they are actually made from this material. They look more like a kind of "stone" to me.

What types of window sills are there?
How did you get them in the matching color?

Thank you very much for your feedback

Hello Narilo,

the most common material for window sills is aluminum; it is easy to shape and join and corrosion-resistant (especially due to anodizing) - different colors are achieved through various anodized coatings. Standard colors would be gold/ brass, light and dark bronze, black, aluminum-colored (natural). Red, yellow, green, and blue/violet are generally also possible, but very rare for window sills; this will be reflected in the price (special colors) if one decides on such a color. All anodized colors share the characteristic that they look metallic, not like a painted or powder-coated window element.

Powder coatings in all colors are another option to color aluminum window sills. This is also durable; aluminum windows are color-coated this way. Thus, it is possible to get aluminum windows and window sills in the same color shade.

With wooden or plastic windows, it is more difficult to get a matching color shade because the different coating types are noticeable in the material - painted wood looks different from powder-coated aluminum.

Furthermore, there are window sills as precast concrete parts, masonry, made of wood (not very durable), or wood-plastic composite materials.

That is exactly why I am also in favor of aluminum window sills, because they are very weather-resistant, and you can also install them yourself very quickly.
Concrete just looks ugly :)

I don't like concrete either and I also have window sills made of aluminum. These are very durable and can be replaced quickly.

That depends. The advantage of aluminum is the price. We have window sills made of natural stone and we have these both inside and outside. Outside, they match well with our windows and inside they are decorated with exotic plants.

I really like windowsills made of sandstone, aluminum is okay, but the natural material is, in my view, more durable, even if more expensive
