First, hardly, and secondly at most, while with double-leaf doors with a mullion about twice as much space becomes available. Send a 90-kg man with a tray for a coffee party through there, then the penny will drop (or the sugar bowl).

The advantage of the sliding door is the wing that does not protrude into the room when it is open. Anyone who cannot manage a 1m passage width will find pleasure with many a house or room door, shower, toilet, bathtub, cinema/train/airplane seat. This premise is therefore simply nonsense.

I go through the terrace door without a cake tray even more often than with one into the shower ;-)

How has humanity managed to survive transporting food from kitchens to other rooms (open-plan living is such a modern thing) so far, where the passage widths of common interior doors are often under 1m?

You notice yourself, as they say here.

By the way, I'll gladly remember that for the next discussion about the width of shower trays, in case you're looking for creatively constructed scenarios again ;-)

Thank you for the feedback.

I will then have the window sizes changed to 113 cm x 138.5 cm. The next common size seems to be 126 cm x 138.5 cm, but that is probably too square for us, and then I think it won’t look so good with the three squares in the upper part.

We will say goodbye to the lift-and-slide door. We would actually have to widen it by at least 1 meter since we also want the option to carry a sofa or table through there. Even now, the 2-meter version is about €500 more expensive than two standard patio doors with hinged sashes and mullion. In addition, there would then be a floor-to-ceiling window.

What should also be considered is the parallel sliding door mentioned below. The additional cost would be moderate compared to the standard patio door. I am only concerned about the "safety notice" with the disclaimer of liability. Is this really serious or just a manufacturer’s precaution because this scenario has occurred once in a thousand cases? At least initially, a terrace overhang is not realistic.
