Hello everyone, I am currently in the process of expanding my workshop. For the walls, I used 60mm sandwich panels. Now I would like to install 2-3 individual windows so that the room does not become too dark. On Google, you can find some companies that offer windows, but always together with the sandwich panel. Does anyone know what kind of windows I need for this? I am still undecided about the window size, something between 800 - 1000mm per side, tilt function is completely sufficient and double glazing or the window can be made of plastic. Best regards bolle01

Hello,

as is usual and also simply practical, windows and doors are mounted behind the sandwich panels. For this, you still need 2 horizontal wall rails as lintel and parapet, with vertical wall rails in between for the reveals. It then looks similar to a horizontal ladder. Depending on the distance between the two supports, the statically necessary profile thicknesses are determined.

However, the vertically welded flat irons are not yet clear to me. What function are they supposed to serve? The wall rails would have to be installed correspondingly further back with a few millimeters of clearance.

Regarding the material of the window frames, I would also tend to plastic windows. Everything else would be overkill in this case.

Best regards, Simon

Hi,

if you only need a few simple windows for lighting, I would recommend using regular plastic windows – preferably tilt-and-turn, so you can also ventilate when it gets dusty in the workshop. Installation is actually not rocket science: you cut the appropriate size into the sandwich panel (measure carefully beforehand and preferably build a frame), insert the window behind it, and seal it properly. Unless you need a complete static calculation, you can order windows, for example, at the hardware store or online in the desired size – for example 900 × 900 mm, which is a good medium size for light and installation effort.

If you want it fancier or more stable, there are also special industrial or hall windows, but they are more expensive and complicated to install.

Important: fasten the frame securely and ensure it is airtight, otherwise drafts will come in or water will leak in.

Good luck with the installation!
