Will this work or are we just dreaming about buying a house?

I always confuse 3 and 5. Assign in a way that her tax burden decreases and her net salary increases.

We planned it wrong back then and left some € of parental allowance on the table.

In my opinion, that should be doable. Our situation is relatively similar when it comes to finances, and we have calculated multiple times and always came to the conclusion that it will work. We have already set aside monthly what the installment would be to see if it really works... and now we recently signed with the bank, and construction will start in 2019. By the way, we got good terms, so it should be possible for you as well (we also have a child).

And guaranteed tax refund... How can anyone give tips like that.

You have to explain that to me. Of course you have to pay back the taxes that you paid too little during the year. It doesn't matter at all, changing tax classes does not affect the overall tax burden when viewed over the entire year. It's purely about temporarily increasing the assessment basis of the wife for parental allowance. But maybe I'm overlooking something, it's been a while since we dealt with this!?

Absolutely right. Definitely switch, it increases the parental allowance but has no influence on the tax burden. We did it that way for both children.

That's nonsense, you even get tax back! You first appear worse off because the man has €900 more gross and moves into tax class 5. We did the same and were happy about the higher parental allowance and the tax refund.
