I have been trying for some time now to attract a squirrel with hazelnuts. The squirrel feeding station didn’t work, no idea if it was placed in the wrong spot or if the little creature is too clueless for the little house. For the past few days, I have simply been throwing a few hazelnuts on the ground in various spots. They are mostly gone now. However, I suspect that the theft happens at night. That would rule out the squirrel. Since I don’t want to attract rats, martens, or I-don’t-know-what here, the question is: who could it be? Does anyone of you have a [wild camera]? I would be interested in one for other reasons as well, but those that are said to be good according to test results cost at least 120 EUR. I actually didn’t want to spend that much.

Hedgehogs, birds, ... Trail cameras are also available for 50€. They don't have to be able to do much else. Maybe check the classifieds sometime?

Any standard IP camera is suitable for the purpose.

Hello

I guess rat. I have had good experiences with the spring traps.
Wild camera from Aldi is good. It is also available used on Ebay. About 1 meter away from the nuts and you get good pictures.

For the IP camera, I would first have to lay a power connection. And the battery versions cost just as much as a trail camera. Or am I misunderstanding that?

The trail cameras for around 50 EUR all get such bad reviews.

I could also just stop leaving nuts, but by now I would be interested in who is stealing them. With rats, however, the fun stops very quickly...
