I am considering not placing my cabinets completely against the wall but having a larger countertop made (about 70cm wide), thus gaining about 10cm. The idea is to have more distance from the wall cabinets or simply more space on the countertop behind the sink/stove. The countertop shouldn’t be a problem (Ikea can make it in this width). What concerns me, however, is that I have a tall cabinet on one side that is only 60cm deep. So I would have to somehow widen the side panel (which is also only 60cm). Has anyone of you done this before? For example, can I cut a baseboard (which is 16cm wide) and install it vertically to close the 10cm gap? I hope to get some input from you on this matter.

You get it immediately

Simply screw the same countertop onto the end panel. That’s how I did it. It then gives the impression of a wide cabinet. So it looks sturdy and high-quality!
If you’re interested, I can take a photo.

Thanks for the answer - maybe a photo will help me. I think I don't quite understand what you mean - at least I interpret your post as if you screwed a countertop onto the side of the box. I actually don't want to solve it that way (I want to have the same front on the top side as on the rest of the kitchen cabinets).

Then it just looks like the solutions you get from kitchen studios. However, I only used very simple fronts and countertops. Colors are therefore, as always, a matter of taste. PS: We are still waiting for the oven.

Thanks, now I understand what you meant. For me, though, that is probably not a solution. The countertop as a top surface would cost me almost €140 (and I need 2 sides) - that seems a bit too expensive to me. I think I'll see if I can attach a baseboard. But you have the normal distance to the wall (60cm and not 70cm), right?
