Steffen has everything in and about it
The U-value, as others have already written, is not decisive for solar gain. The U-value refers only to thermal conductivity: with it, you can very well estimate how much energy flows when there are different temperatures on two sides. Radiation is not captured by it.
Furthermore, houses today have (firstly) mostly larger windows and (secondly) less massive masonry that stores heat. Keyword: phase shift.
We are installing an air conditioning unit in the attic, which cools the children's rooms and the bedroom. Doesn't cost the world, maybe 3,500 euros.
Exactly, but only for itself
It should also be considered that the sand-lime brick, once warmed up, also stores a lot of energy, meaning that at night you lose the heat less easily...
Shading is definitely essential for us, with about 12 m² of window area in the living-dining area, most of it facing south.
