For our new building, we dealt with tiles today. Floor tiles the same throughout the whole house. "Space gunmetal R10 A/B Nr. S118" in 60 x 60 cm. It is a dark gray with brownish flecks. For the bathroom wall, the dealer recommends "Cardi perle ret. N10" in 42.5 x 119.2 cm. Then white room doors. Overall, I find it lacking in color, especially since no one uses borders or anything like that anymore. The seller said that the color would then have to be created through towels or decor. Could the non-tiled wall sections not be painted in color, or would that look bad? I am thinking of a delicate light green. Or what would fit?

I don't understand your uncertainty regarding the color (also in the other thread). Just do the tiles and doors according to YOUR taste, or is the tiler moving in as well

A bathroom has, even before the kitchen, the longest lifespan (renovation interval) of the rooms in a house. That means it is good if you can look at it for a long time, and for that, it is advantageous if all the fixed installations remain rather neutral. In this respect, the dealer’s advice is meaningful. It is, of course, easy to change the color impression later when it is created through accessories. Still, the line between being able to look at it for a long time and being boring is narrow. Just go to the most expensive bathroom showroom you can find and look at the designs from fundamental perspectives. Here, a confident choice of style makes the difference.

Still, in your own home, you should build what you want to have yourself and not just what someone else’s considerations suggest. So if you like a border, then just put it up. If you like lime green, then go ahead and put it on. It’s quickly painted over if it was a mistake. Only if you are uncertain, I would get a roll of wallpaper and paint a whole strip in the desired color as a sample and hang it in the bathroom for 2-3 days. Especially with bright colors, you can easily misjudge the intensity.

A design that falls outside the "pleases-everyone frame" will polarize. But it also holds the chance that it will be exactly yours.

Best regards
Gabriele

"No one does borders"... look at my profile picture. Ok, it’s not a border but strictly speaking a pattern tile, but so what..

I could yawn every time I see another hotel design bathroom – you know, the gray/white or brown/beige that’s currently "in". It looks consistent on its own, I also like it in photos, but for myself – never.

Do what YOU like. I’m pretty sure that very few people really like our blue and white bathroom. So what? It’s ours, I’m happy about it every time.

My bathroom stands out a bit in terms of colors. I like it, most of my visitors do too. Others find it terrible. I can live with that because I like it very much. I feel warmly and happily welcomed by my bathroom in the mornings.
By the way, the tiles are actually square. That just as an example that "color" can also work well in a bathroom. And my bathroom is small, about 5 m². And as an example that you really enjoy it when you choose what you like.

Phew, if I listened every time to what you should or shouldn’t do, things would look very different for me too. Be brave and decide for yourself, no matter what the tile people tell you! Sites like Pinterest or Houzz help with finding ideas, I browse there a lot. You can also search for decorative tiles, something like that is laid on a bathroom wall here with us. A little tip (oh dear, now I’m starting with what "one" does too): I find it more harmonious (and that’s often done nowadays) when the same tiles are laid on the wall and floor. And of course you can refresh the whole thing with wall paint!
