Which insurance covers road damages caused by a crane parking area?

The crane for our timber frame prefabricated single-family house construction will partly stand in the public space, in front of our property, on the street. If the public street is damaged as a result, who is then responsible for covering the damages? Is there an insurance we must take out for this case, or is the crane company insured accordingly? (We already have various insurances, but as always I want to ask you first before contacting the insurance advisor. ;-) ) Or can/must the crane company lay steel mats or similar on the street to avoid damage?

Since our construction area has been fully developed for about 15 years, except for our property, there is no construction road anymore but only the usual publicly accessible road.

Yes, it’s similar with us regarding only publicly accessible roads.

You probably need a (partial) road closure. That was the case with us when the crane was partially on the public road. This must be applied for at the public order office. Ask there first who is even allowed to apply for such a thing.

We were not allowed to do this at all; the public order office rejected our application because the applicant is liable for damages. Therefore, the closure had to be applied for by a company. This company is then liable for any damages. So, for us, it was handled by the general contractor or the crane company. The crane companies themselves have such insurance.

: Your crane was certainly stationary, right? Mobile cranes on large air tires are used for timber frame house construction; usually, there is no damage. Not even from the additional supports.

We applied to the city for the 3-day one-sided road closure.

We also built in a building gap from “annodazumal”.

, no. We had a truck crane for setting up the (wood) prefabricated house. The city did not make any distinction there. But presumably, it is regulated differently everywhere. For example, luckily we did not have any of those notorious traffic controllers that you occasionally read about here. Therefore, one should inquire in good time.
