Hello everyone,

our strip foundation for our double garage is already finished. Now the gravel is being worked on and afterwards the floor slab (probably 15cm) will be created.

The yard in front of the garage is about 8m from the street. The builder has so far laid the gravel so that the floor slab is about 10cm above street level. However, he recommends 15cm and therefore suggested another 5cm of screed or something similar so that we reach 15cm.

1. Question: Is screed actually suitable for a garage floor or should we raise the floor slab by 5cm and only install an industrial floor? According to the builder, the raw floor should not be left as is, because, for example, saltwater in winter would not be good for the floor.

2. Where is the position of an edge strip usually located at the garage entrance? For example, sectional door. Do you lay the floor (e.g., screed or industrial floor) rather up to the inner edge of the walls (garage entrance) and then lay the outer/paving stones slightly into the garage entrance (i.e. the wall thickness of the garage entrance)? If yes, then this would have to be taken into account when formwork for the floor slab is done.

Best regards

Regarding 1. Correct. However, you can also grind concrete, and then you save the coating. This can sometimes be very expensive, 100 euros per m2. You only need screed if you want to tile.

Regarding 2. That is exactly right. You set it up so that you can then pave up to the inner edge of the stone.

It was and still is often done incorrectly. It's just 5 more minutes of work for the construction company not to run the formwork straight...

Does this (100 €/m²) refer to the "grinding" or the "coating"?

Sorry was unclear, these are costs of the coating. Sanding costs about 20 euros per m2.

I would put a couple of K EP on it. I would also pull them a bit up the walls, instead of a baseboard. Done. BüFa has something like that. Brillux too.
