Hello everyone,

I took over a Faktum kitchen from the previous tenant and ordered several elements for it, including 2 wall cabinets with vertical flaps 92x40. There are already 2 of these hanging, and the reordered ones are supposed to go above them.

Since the wall cabinets already have a huge weight and will be filled later, it would be great if you could advise me on which dowels and screws to use. Unfortunately, it is not possible to find out with what and how securely the already hanging cabinets were mounted.

According to the landlord, the walls are made of pumice cement.

You can't rely on information from hardware stores. Everyone says something different here.

Is there anything else to consider when hanging these wall cabinets on top of each other?

A thousand thanks for your help

"Bimszement" is unknown to me. Maybe he means pumice concrete? From a distance, I can't really give you advice. Just drill a hole in the wall to see how it's constructed. Solid bricks? Hollow blocks? Which material exactly?

It should be possible to find out what the already hanging cabinets are attached with. Just take one down.

Regards Wolfgang

HI Thimmy,

I can only agree with wolf2000. Drill a test hole, check how the drill dust looks, see if the drill goes smoothly into the wall, etc. For normal walls, I use 6x80 key screws, that is, the ones with a hexagon. With corresponding long plugs. If it is a very crumbly wall, I would use plugs to be glued in with some kind of cement. These are available, for example, from a company that also manufactures heavy drills .

Regards, Mr. Rossi

Mr. Rossi, do you get the lock of the suspension through the hexagon? I have always used wood screws with a round head.

My recommendation for all mineral walls, where you don’t really know how thick the plaster layer and load-bearing layer are:
"Fischer SX" anchors for 8mm drill holes and 60mm length. At the big hardware store with B...... you can get Fischer anchors, unfortunately not at my favorite hardware store with H.......
The cheap expansion anchors (also available from Fischer as Fischer S) are only good for concrete. With old plaster, crumbling can start in the hole when screwing in, but then the SX-anchor begins to "knot," causing the anchor to shrink in length but become thicker and firmly fill the gap. I hope that somehow makes sense now. The prerequisite is that the screw is longer than the anchor, so that the tip protrudes beyond the end of the anchor; only then does the knotting work when screwing in.

You should best use screws with 6x80mm and a pan head, as the Ikea expert already recommended. Hex screws are of course just as suitable, but you can’t properly snap the plastic cover onto the bracket after fastening, especially for wall cabinets since that is in the visible area. Best to use ones with a Torx head, so the bit doesn’t slip while screwing.

By the way, Faktum wall cabinets should only be mounted by two people. One holds the cabinet, while the other tightens it with a cordless drill while watching a level placed inside it. You may have to loosen one or two screws again and realign horizontally while tightening again, also holding those little sheets for height adjustment. Mounting a Faktum wall cabinet alone is a guarantee for cursing fits.
