What should be considered when designing stairs / differences in the winding?

I think I've read that somewhere before. Very well, then we'll plan it that way. The heavier larger items go into the basement rather than the upper floor, so a quarter-turn staircase would be better for transport in our case. Also, I would like a generous pre-basement, which would disappear with a half-turn staircase in our floor plan :)

Technically, any staircase is possible. Replacing a half-turn staircase with a quarter-turn staircase already changes the layout at the start and end of the stairs. This will make some rooms (including the hallway) smaller or larger. I have always used these measurements here: link removed

Feel free to experiment with the floor plan. That’s how you learn to understand the connections when you change something in one corner and see how it affects the whole house. But whether you can actually improve something ... ;)

Regarding the stair width, I would like to add that "too much" can also be a problem if you need/want to pull yourself up on both handrails, for example due to mobility impairments (it doesn't have to be permanent, a sprained ankle can be enough) – and since there is less two-way traffic on the stairs in a single-family house, I would not make it too wide for ergonomic reasons!

Hello,

a house is built to last forever, meaning it must remain habitable in old age. What use is the most beautiful staircase if it is difficult to walk on or not accessible or insufficiently accessible by stairlift.

With a relative who suddenly became disabled due to an accident, we had to break down 4 doors and install new, wider, wheelchair-accessible ones. Furthermore, the shower had to be remodeled to be floor-level accessible.

For such reasons, our staircase was already designed to potentially install a stairlift.
