Dear community,
I hope this is the right category, I didn’t find any really suitable one...
We have bought a recreational plot in a village in Brandenburg with a small DDR bungalow. Of course, new construction is not allowed, but the bungalow (from the 80s) is granted a grandfathering protection. As we were told, it has a sealed cesspool, and regular emptying on call by a suction truck is covered by the water costs. However, we have now learned from the neighbors that the cesspool was never emptied by the previous owners over many years, i.e., either the cesspool is leaking or it was designed as a soakaway from the start (which is now illegal). The bungalow is the last house on the edge of the village; the houses next to and opposite are connected to the sewage system, the connection was probably also offered to the previous owners, but they declined, presumably because it was too expensive for them (just speculating, the previous owners have unfortunately passed away, so we can no longer ask them, we bought from the daughter). The distance between the bungalow and the manhole on the street is about 10 meters. Could someone roughly estimate how much the costs for a sewage connection would be (very roughly, would it be under 5,000 or rather over 10,000 Euros?). Unfortunately, we have no experience in this area. Would it be cheaper to seal the cesspool? Basically, we tend to connect to the sewage system, partly because it would be more convenient than constantly calling the suction truck, and because in the long term (in about 20 years, when we retire and it would be about building a small barrier-free bungalow for old age) we might try to convert the plot into building land. I would be very happy about any kind of feedback. Thanks very much in advance!
Best regards
Tim
