I cannot imagine that the additional costs amount to only 2000€. Separate cables must be pulled everywhere, right?

It is possible, but I think only with your own work. The cables themselves are completely negligible. However, an electrician will of course charge for the extra effort in laying, the distribution cabinet, and the programming accordingly.

A visualization does not have to be expensive either, if you have some technical understanding and a playful attitude. Tablet on the wall with Smarthome.py and SmartVisu. Then the costs are limited to a tablet and a Raspberry Pi.

We are also installing a KNX system here in EL with an electrician in the family. I take care of planning, programming, and pulling cables, he handles the connection. We get credited about 10,000 euros for the electrical work from the general contractor. For not much more, I am now implementing the bus system.

Oh dear...

WARNING Very dangerous half-knowledge!

The original poster mentions GIRA, so he was presented with KNX as the Smart Home thingy by the seller with 99.99% certainty. Which indeed (as already stated above) is a globally used open standard for building system technology. In industry and commercial sectors, practically nothing works today without KNX, and the system is slowly becoming acceptable in private homes too, as it has simply become much cheaper due to increasing competition from many proprietary systems.

If you only want to map conventional electrical installations with KNX, then 2-3K more could be sufficient, although only in a small house with few devices to control.

A visualization is not absolutely necessary for a "Smart Home." Everything works perfectly fine without it.

Wow! But you must have had a lot of electrical work included in the contract from the start. Usually, the credit is rather at the lower end so that for a standard house you get credited about 3-4K.

With 10K you can do quite a bit in terms of KNX.

Anyone interested should look around in the specialized forums. Or also here in the respective sections. I have already written a lot on this topic since I live in such a house, installed the technology myself, parameterized/programmed it, and constantly expand the system.

Yes, that surprised me too. A colleague also got about 5000 euros. Now we're adding a bit more and getting comprehensive equipment. It will be a nice project.

But you’re also comparing apples to oranges. You’re comparing performance in the construction description including labor costs with self-performance + materials. Not everyone knows an electrician who can quickly do all the wiring. If you not only have to get the actually cheap materials but also pay for the installation, €3000 really won’t get you far. A few lights turning on/off with a motion detector only scratches the surface of KNX and I can easily manage that even without KNX (just install a motion detector). Since 5-core cables are laid throughout the house, the free conductors can also be used for controls and you don't have to pull new wires.

I had written 2-3K more and not 2-3K in total.

For 3K extra, you can already make lights and, for example, sockets or roller shutters a bit smarter, just as I wrote, the conventional wiring, which is in every construction service description: á la:

1 push-button circuit from three locations to one light point
1 simple socket
1 off-switch to one external light point
1 doorbell system with door button and 2-tone gong

or

1 control-off circuit to one light point
2 simple sockets
1 off-switch to mirror cabinet outlet

map in KNX and possibly upgrade the rest later bit by bit. But even if you don’t expand further, the gain in comfort is enormous, just thinking of a few PMs or arbitrary light scenes switchable from any place in the house.
