illegal work is initially also subject to normal laws. work carried out illegally is, for example, also subject to warranty obligations, etc...
but this probably does not apply here, as there is a proper invoice. so probably only the route of setting a deadline, etc... however, why one pays 100% in advance is beyond me.

Uh, as far as I know, there was a ruling a few months ago that the statutory warranty does not apply in cases of illegal work...

I think so too. The idea is that the illegal should not be legally protected. But I do not know for sure.
