Underfloor heating without a controller but how?

I have often read here that the controllers are more decorative than actually used. We currently also have underfloor heating, but our apartment building is already more than 20 years old, so I think the insulation is not as good as it is today. In other words, we adjust the heating a bit more often. But basically, I can imagine that once it is properly set, the heating runs throughout the winter. But without the controllers, how does the house determine the current temperature? And how is the underfloor heating even adjusted? Only at the control valves on the heating? I hope someone can shed some light on this :)

Multi-family house means different apartments with their own heating requirements, gable apartments, middle apartments, etc. Be glad about a regulation for your comfort temperature.

The house does not know the indoor temperature at all, only the outdoor temperature.

And via the adjustable heating curve, this temperature is converted by the heating device into the desired flow or return temperature of the underfloor heating.

Yes, via the controllers at the heater and the flow rate chosen in the circuits.

Ok so basically I regulate a certain temperature on the heater and through the amount that goes through the heating coils I regulate the temperature? What if unexpectedly suddenly in mid-December it is 15 degrees outside temperature? Does the heater adjust the heating temperature? Or do I always have to reset it on the heater?

Due to a hydraulic balancing calculation carried out, it is determined for a house how much water flows through each room (in the underfloor heating). If this is done correctly and the heating curve is set correctly (controlled by the outside temperature or the outside temperature sensor), the right amount of water is always in the room at a given outside temperature to achieve, for example, 22 degrees indoor temperature. So no temperature needs to be determined inside the house. It is reached automatically by the configured system. That was the short version. Then you don't need to regulate anymore, because there is nothing to regulate. Possibly in the transition period, the heating may sometimes heat too late or too early. But that is manageable. Of course, it may be that individual heating circuits need fine adjustment or minor tweaks to the heating curve. But overall, the system then runs by itself

Perfect, thanks for the great explanation. Then we will probably do without the controllers. Thank you very much for that! So if I can manage with 20 degrees in the bedroom, I just regulate the flow there a bit lower? But that doesn’t affect the other controlled values?
