My brother had a topping-out ceremony on a Friday afternoon. It was done really traditionally with a topping-out speech and a little jab at the homeowner. Then there was some hearty food and beer/water/lemonade (all rather rustic, because of the cold inside the house; in good weather before). Every carpenter received a lunch knife with their engraved name. But that also had a story: on my brother’s construction site, they usually always have lunch together. My brother also works there full-time and always organizes it. He noticed that the carpenters all did NOT have a lunch knife (and were somewhat helpless sitting in front of bread and salami *g*). So it fit in well. It is a nice custom and you can then hang the topping-out speech framed in your house. I would definitely do it. Maybe you have a caterer/party service nearby who delivers? (usually also the required cutlery and plates and take the dirty ones away), one or two beer bench sets can be quickly procured (maybe also via party service?) and drinks from the bottle/crate. That’s quick and easy!
