Hi everyone,

would be great if you could give me some tips on shading our south terrace.

For green (width 2m) I could imagine a vertical awning with cable guidance, but then I would probably have to extend the beam a bit to attach the roller box.
For blue (width 4.5m) it gets a bit trickier, for a proper awning the beam probably won't be strong enough, and with a sun sail I would be afraid that I won’t be able to attach it properly since it’s quite windy in this corner.

We do have a parasol of 3x4m, but that’s not ideal either with the wind here. :-(

Any other ideas?

Thanks and best regards

Just go to a local provider and get advice. Especially stability is a serious issue, if you already say that it is windy. And this raises the issue of fastening anyway. Get an offer regarding this. Then you can think about it ....

hm green = the roller blind is already good then I would probably have planted a significantly larger bush in the corner, which also provides shade, or put up a wider trellis, the greenery cools even better than an awning. the wood will surely get wet in rain with wind too, won't it?

A awning - in the usual price range and construction - is not much better than a parasol in wind. With an extension, you can achieve shading with climbing plants - of course, this is then not movable. Instead of hanging an awning on the blue marking, you could also use the house wall for mounting. However, the extension would then not be possible without lateral guidance over the entire terrace depth. My preferred idea would probably be the sun sail you mentioned. It does require manual effort for setup and takedown - but with a correspondingly solid construction, you would not do this constantly.

Thank you for your contributions.

: Yes, the wood gets wet at times, but it is only stored there as an emergency solution and will be removed in due course.

I actually thought that an awning would withstand more than a parasol. At least my father's awning gives that impression, but it is also mounted separately on two steel poles and extends on both sides, so it is not quite as wide as I would need it to be.

I will inquire at a specialist company.
With the sun sail, I only fear that the fittings will be torn out in strong winds. Courage to leave gaps ..

Our awning guy said a good awning can withstand more than you expect. It still holds up against wind when you no longer want to sit outside. But the bracket also has to be stable for that. Best to ask a specialist company.
