Hello everyone,

we have been living in our house for almost 3 years now. Unfortunately, a first defect has now appeared.

In the area of the front door (first row of tiles), several tiles have come loose from the substrate and are now hollow. This is not really a problem, the tiler has already been informed and will fix the defect next week.

From my point of view, however, a bigger problem arises. Directly in front of the side panel of the front door is the staircase to the upper floor. In the area of the front door, the staircase stands on the tiles, and one of these tiles is affected. As soon as you step on the stairs, you can hear that the tile is loose or creaks when stepped on. This was not the case before.

Is there any way to fix this without having to dismantle the stairs?

Thanks and best regards Matthias

Now I am somewhat shocked by the answers.

I will try to take some photos of it later.

Basically, what theoretical possibilities are there for remediation here?

The sentence from

makes me suspect that it could become more complicated if it turns out that the carrier actually rests on the tiles.

The staircase will not be fully resting there, as it is a system staircase. Each step is individually anchored in the load-bearing wall. Only the first steps at the beginning (the staircase is quarter-turn at the bottom) have a support on the tiles in front of the side panel of the front door.

Here is an old photo from the construction phase.

There is not much to see in the picture. I will not be able to help you with any further measures to be taken, experts are needed for that.

I am aware of that. It should only support my statement that the entire load is not concentrated on the tiles, as the steps are anchored in the wall.
