Hello everyone.

Once again, I would like to ask for help here. This time it’s about our kitchen, which, it seems, will not end well.

Now to the actual story:
In 2015, we moved into a newly built rental apartment and bought and had installed a new Nobilia L-shaped kitchen for 8k euros. In mid-2017, we signed our house construction contract and went directly to a kitchen studio to ask if we could dismantle, modify, and reinstall our 2015 kitchen in the house. Unfortunately, the kitchen studio where we purchased the kitchen in 2015 had gone out of business, and we had to go to a new studio.

Anyway, we sent floor plans of the house and the documents of our 2015 kitchen in advance by email and scheduled an appointment. At the appointment, we were told that the kitchen could be extended and the matching furniture was still available to order exactly as before. He then showed us a proposal that we liked. However, he said that a 60 cm cabinet, which we already have, would be left over because it would not fit anymore. IMPORTANT!

Anyway, everything was okay so far, and a contract for 3000 euros (dismantling, transport, and installation) was concluded and 1000 euros paid in advance.

In July 2017, we moved into the house and the kitchen was installed immediately. Unfortunately, we were only partially present during the installation because we were moving that day. In the afternoon, the kitchen fitter asked us if we knew that a 60 cm cabinet would remain according to the plan. We said yes because your boss said it would no longer fit. It turned out that it would indeed fit and that there was about 10 cm of space to the window. When asked if he could still install it, he said no, because the countertop and the backsplash had already been glued and installed.

We immediately called the studio and were told that in order to install the cabinet, the entire countertop and backsplash would have to be redone. Therefore, they would have to charge us around 1500 euros extra. When we asked why the cabinet was not planned for, he only said that we knew that, but he could not remember why it was not supposed to be installed. We immediately rejected the offer for the 1500 euros and told the fitter, who was still in the house. The fitter said he could do it cheaper by simply attaching a piece of countertop and backsplash. Then we would have a seam in the countertop, but the material cost would be about 300 euros. We agreed and the fitter took care of everything with the studio boss.

In October, the fitter came and installed it. Then he noticed that because of a corner outlet he had mounted himself, he had drilled a large hole in the countertop and backsplash, which is now visible in the middle of the kitchen. Of course, we told him right away that we would not accept this. He tried to find a solution and offered to get the same model as the corner outlet, only not for the corner, and mount it over the holes. We agreed, sincerely believing that he would actually install the appropriate outlet there.

On Friday morning he came, but we were at work, so my parents let him in. Friday evening we came home and all I heard from my wife was a loud "Are they serious?" Pictures are attached.

Of course, we immediately dismantled the thing ourselves and have not paid the invoice for the remaining 2300 euros that was left behind.

Does anyone have an idea how I can best get out of this situation now?
I will definitely not pay the remaining money simply because I will not accept the kitchen as it is. The agreed power strip does not look like our others at all and is also damaged, and a screw is missing on the side. It was only intended as a goodwill emergency solution towards the fitter. The fitter himself apparently also thought that we would not accept it, because he only attached the outlet with one of two screws. Probably to avoid another hole.

In the old email exchange, I also saw that the floor plan we sent from the start would have allowed for the 60 cm cabinet, the planner just simply overlooked it and we were foolish enough not to check it (we were also in the middle of the construction phase). Just because of this one cabinet, we now have all these problems. I never thought the kitchen would be the most prolonged trade in the whole house.

A lot of text, very confusing. I just don’t know what to do next. I won’t be able to reach the kitchen studio again until Tuesday and would simply ask for your help on how I should best respond here. :(

Regards

Oh dear, I'm sorry.

That it was visible in the plan is of course bad for you, because officially you knew that he could be available if one wanted. :(

But I don't quite understand the thing with the sockets. Sure, it's not nice with the two strips, but better than seeing the cable openly and the hole in the panel?

And: Why was this corner socket installed at all? There was no cabinet there before and only the other one was there. Couldn't it have just been left like that?

In the kitchen plan attached to the contract, it was not visible. The plan ends directly with the cabinet.

We agreed to the socket solution because we preferred it to having the hole exposed. However, the strip looks different from the other sockets. (Different material, different height, different screws... etc)

The holes are there because previously the tall right cabinet was attached there and the small corner socket was mounted there.

For better understanding: The tall cabinet was moved to the right, your 60 cm unit placed in between? And actually it only needs a visually proper and neatly mounted power strip where the corner socket was before, and then the matter is settled?

Yes and yes. That's exactly how it is. Apparently, the model we have in the corners is not available for the plain wall. However, the installer said he would install the appropriate one there. He probably didn't know any better himself. I have already considered buying the corner socket again and simply mounting it between the countertop and the niche cladding, but unfortunately, there are also two screw holes above :(

Is there no manufacturer that offers corner and straight solutions from one series? Then you simply replace both strips and that’s that.
