Good morning everyone,

I am responsible for selecting the tiles in our new house. Easier said than done.
Online, I am practically overwhelmed with different tiles and feel even more overwhelmed because of it. The selection is often confusing, and there are so many providers that I lose track.

Do you have any tips on how I should proceed to find the right tiles?

What should I generally pay attention to when buying?

Thank you in advance

You should always only look at and choose tiles in person. Go to the hardware store or showroom, feel them, take the tile into daylight, and so on. I wouldn't buy something like that from the internet because the coloring is never the same as in reality.

You should already have a color scheme for every room where the tiles will go so that you can narrow down the selection.

Our tile studio then displayed the bathrooms in 3-D, for example. This allowed one to reconsider the selection.

Yes, definitely watch live. And definitely in daylight. And lay it on the floor. It looks different when a tile is hanging on the wall in the showroom compared to on the floor.

I would also recommend, once you have narrowed it down to two models, to take two samples with you and ideally lay them on the floor at the construction site. You can be quite surprised how everything suddenly looks different "on site."
The same applies to the format. The same tile can look completely different in 80x80 than in 30x60.

It would also be beneficial to define the requirements, form follows function. How durable should the covering be? How slip-resistant? Would the tiler also be able to work with uncalibrated and unrectified material? How wide should the joint be (this is related)? What should the effect in the room be, for example warm or cool? What do you want to invest per sqm? What formats are desired and do the installation areas sensibly allow these formats? How long will the series continue or has it possibly already been discontinued? For the design, if I wanted to watch the budget, I would look to Italy. The Italians set high-quality accents in much smaller areas than the Germans and even achieve more beautiful results. With us, people often overdo it when it is not necessary. Many greetings Gabriele
