To explain why a concrete slab is used when you want to lay gravel: The concrete slab was the original construction of the terrace probably 40 years ago. Then there were paving slabs in sand. In the meantime, a wooden terrace was on top. Now slabs are to be laid again...
If I understand correctly, the actual problem is that the concrete slab has no slope and water might remain there, freeze, and cause the slabs to lift. Not much more can happen, or can it? Generally, surface water has also been drained so far, there were no moisture problems or water from other areas.
What options would there be to create a drainage layer (with slope) on the slab? I read something about screed. Is there another way?
