By what means was the request made (orally? by telephone? in writing?). I would respond in the same way. What reasons are there that the excavation cannot be stored on the respective own property? Why should it be done at your place? Is that understandable? Sensible?

As others have also written, I would record the storage conditions in writing. This includes a date when the stuff will be removed again, who is responsible for ensuring that the stuff is removed, and who bears the costs.

If the neighbor is serious and friendly, he will of course have no objections to such a document. He means no harm but is asking for a favor and knows that he must establish the necessary basis of trust.

If everything is pleasant, you can meet on the thus created "commander's hill" and toast with a beer to the neighbor's new building rising next to it.

Radio Yerevan, I say: it depends... If it’s a (stereotypical) teacher, lawyer "or similar," it can be quite burdensome – actually, I am also a friend of rather pragmatic arrangements, but past experiences (regardless of construction!) have cost me a lot of money, so unfortunately the skeptic in me would have the upper hand.

Unfortunately, my workplace does not allow me to believe only in the good in people. However, privately I first assume a healthy basic trust. And yes, that can also be disappointed - but between neighbors, something could also be sealed with a handshake.

For me and the (beim Bauen) future neighbors, we have verbally agreed on everything like this (Erde lagern, Platz während Bauphase) and everything turned out fine without any trouble.

Good evening,

Actually not; however, you can designate a place outside your building window for the temporary storage of the excavation.

I have experienced a lot in my life and have therefore abandoned the romantic notion that a handshake can replace a contract

If the neighbor is above suspicion, he will understand if you want a two-liner signed. In it, you should record the location, quantity, and duration of the excavation's stay. If the neighbor complies with this agreement without a reminder, you can be happy to have found a reliable person and perhaps consider the next agreement by handshake.

Rhenish regards

The pile of earth must also be secured. Sounds strange, but that's the case. The securing must be done by the neighbor and they must also be liable for any damages. It's very petty now, but then it will be a 4-line instead of a 2-line. You are responsible for your property and have a [Grundbesitzerhaftpflichtversicherung].
