Dear forum,

for our new building, large floor-to-ceiling window fronts are planned on both gable sides, which should also terminate at the roof slope in the attic.

The first offers for the exterior blinds on the sloping gable windows significantly exceed the budget.

Does anyone have experience with this topic or know of alternative solutions?

The only alternative would be to omit it. Special solutions usually come with special prices, even if the extra effort is often limited. Maybe through an online shop? But who would carry out the installation? However, I wonder how one comes to when not everything has even been fully planned and calculated yet. There doesn’t seem to be a buffer either.

I wonder how one comes to this assumption? Everything is planned. Nevertheless, the quotes for the sun protection exceed the calculation significantly at this point. Of course, there is a buffer. But you don't want to use it all up on the windows if there are other options.

Do you have the possibility to plan away the sloping walls? That seems to me the most economical solution. Alternatively, I would split the windows and make a small triangle at the top as fixed glazing (thanks to the roof overhang, there should be little sun there in summer anyway) and the lower part with a normal blind. But it probably doesn’t look quite as nice.

In addition, slanted venetian blinds generally cause technical problems because they do not run smoothly and often get stuck. Until a few years ago, they were only available with a warranty waiver; it seems that today this is different (or the specialist dealer signs this waiver to the manufacturer without the end customer's knowledge, because he adds so much to the price in advance that he can easily come by once a year for the next 5 years to replace the lift tapes ;).)

As WilderSueden already wrote, it is common practice to segment the window in such a situation. Alternatively, one can relatively inexpensively (compared to the price of the slanted venetian blind) design the cover, i.e., the box in which the venetian blind is housed, at an angle and hang the venetian blind straight, but then you have a larger metal box in front of the upper part of the window.

Unfortunately, that option does not exist or it would change the entire architecture so much that I would rather accept the additional costs. This also applies to dividing the windows, which we have already considered, but I want to exclude it because the children's rooms are on the west side and we want to be able to completely darken them in summer.

I had already suspected or heard that. Do you have any personal experience with this?

Thanks for the feedback!
