Stair railing delivered in the wrong color, invoice reduction?

Yesterday, our stair railing was installed on the concrete stairs.

It is a wooden stair railing with stainless steel rods.

The railing was ordered in a very dark brown (almost black). A considerably lighter brown was delivered.

Upon inquiry with the railing manufacturer, he responded that it was accidentally produced in the wrong color. It is now being checked whether it would be more economical to produce the whole thing anew or to pick it up, sand it down, and repaint it.

I would accept the color currently installed. My wife is not quite so convinced; this might still be negotiable financially.

The total order value amounts to €2550 including installation.

What would be an appropriate invoice reduction?

Just get an offer from the staircase builder. If he has to build the new one, he has the damage of 2550. Since it is a cosmetic defect, the expectations cannot be that high. Maybe his offer will convince you?

None at all, since a defect correction should be carried out first. The staircase builder wants to do that as well. So initially, do not pay any invoice at all, but wait for the staircase builder.

I will of course not simply withhold any amount from the invoice!

Instead, I will suggest to the railing installer to waive some amount and allow me to keep the railing installed "incorrectly."

This, of course, only works with his consent.

I would insist on the delivery of the ordered goods in the correct color, after all, you have thought about it long enough.

I also believe that you would be annoyed about the wrong color for years. Let's have the staircase builder come and see what he ultimately suggests.
