So I think the wooden ceiling is quite nice. Did you paint it specially to keep the wood light?

I took your advice and put in two more plants and hope the furniture will improve things a bit. We actually wanted to reduce decorative elements to keep the cleaning effort low.

For that, I’ve now ordered a few Basetect panels to try out the effect in the living room. If it works, I might also stick egg crate foam to the ceiling above the table, it could go well with our lights.

If it doesn’t help, I’ll stick the things in the laundry room.

In terms of surface area for dust, only ferns might surpass it

But the dust then sticks to the ceiling, it doesn't bother me there

Eggcrate foam under tables and chairs is the most inconspicuous and also works.

The room acoustics of our future house, which will essentially consist of one room over two levels with sloping ceilings, we hope to have under control with this real wood acoustic ceiling system.

When it comes to sound damping, there are different approaches.

Small quick options:
- Fabric curtains
- Plants
- Furniture, carpets, sofa....

Otherwise, you always start damping the sound at the ceiling.

There is the mentioned wood version with "holes," or the drywall version from Knauff / Fermacell.
They have holes.

Behind that, a kind of cavity is created, which is lined with acoustic insulation wool.

That already absorbs a lot.

Alternatively, you can also hang down so-called ceiling panels with Basotect absorber material (special foam) at specific points.

But if you don't have a ceiling in the respective room yet, the drywall version is the better solution.

Carpet flooring is also an option, but most people don't like that in living rooms/dining rooms or similar.
