I think you misunderstand me. Hot water = 0 degrees means no hot water coming from the tap anymore... how is that supposed to be goal-oriented?

Why so complicated? Can't you set a hot water program on your heating system (with my gas heating it is possible)? That is, set certain times during which the heating should actually reach the hot water target temperature?

I only allow my gas heating to operate in the summer between 5 and 8 pm. Consequently, on every reasonably sunny day until then, the storage tank is warm thanks to the solar system --> gas consumption 0.0 cubic meters.

results in two problems: 1. if you have no sun for a longer time, you probably have cold water 2. if only a few days without sun, you heat up afterwards. Every day. I only allow my boiler to heat up again when the buffer is below 40 degrees, regardless of the time of day. This way I manage to get through even a whole week without sun with a gas consumption of 0.0 :)

Results in absolutely no problems for me. There is never cold water. If the solar radiation should really be insufficient, then the warm water from the previous evening easily lasts until the afternoon of the following day....
Which has NEVER been the case so far, because I have vacuum tube collectors and not flat plate collectors on the roof. Consequently, diffuse light is also sufficient thanks to the parabolic mirrors.

And why do I heat additionally? I can, just like you, simply lower the hot water setpoint for the gas heating, e.g. to 40°C.

well, every manufacturer cooks their own soup there.

For my system, for example, there are two parameters. Hot water (set to 45°) and hot water solar (set to 70°). Additionally, thanks to a built-in clock, the system can distinguish between summer and winter by itself and thus only heats in summer if there has been no sun for a long time.

Because as long as the solar thermal system manages to heat the storage tank to at least 46°, nothing happens to the gas valve.

P.S. with 5sqm flat plate collectors on a 45° south-facing roof.
