Smartmeter - not yet a standard in new construction?

On Monday, our electricity meter was installed (NetzeBW). Since it is a new building, we have installed a photovoltaic system and an air-water heat pump, I assumed that the new generation of electricity meters - a smart meter - would automatically be installed by the network operator. No such luck. A regular digital meter is hanging in the fuse box. How is it with you? We would accept the higher meter fees, that would not be a problem. However, we were not even offered a smart meter. Do you have to apply for the smart electricity meter separately from the supplier? Are there additional costs? Do smart meters have any disadvantages (apart from higher fees)?

The question is what you understand by "smart"?! What do you imagine?

The new meters have an infrared interface with a standardized protocol - these are smart meters. There are already various (electricity) providers who then give you a device to process the data from this interface via WLAN.

No idea what this "smart" is always supposed to mean here - just because a meter can now output data....

No no, the real smart meters that are currently being talked about in the media, in my opinion, should also make it possible for the network operator to throttle and shut down the entire house connection. That’s probably not possible with the infrared interfaces, right?

This is the "modern metering device" that every connection is supposed to get by 2032. If you want a "smart metering device," you need to clarify with your metering point operator whether they have anything on offer and what the additional costs are.

Hi,

Exactly. And to this day, I still don't understand why I should have to pay additional fees to enable the network operator to cut off my power...?!?

Best regards,

What do you hope to achieve by installing it?
