Hello everyone,

soon the sanitary fixtures are to be installed in our new building. Among other things, we have 2 showers that will be built flush with the floor. We already have a tiler who will do the sloped screed for us. However, he says that due to warranty coverage he will not install the channels nor connect them to the drain.

We are still considering commissioning this through our house builder, depending on your answers, as the following questions have come up for us:

-Difficulty level? I’m not unskilled when it comes to handiwork, but I don’t want any leaks causing everything to have to be completely re-tiled.

-Shower channel: Our house builder would prefer to sell us a very expensive channel, but you can find ones for a tenth of the price online with very good reviews. Does anyone have experience with this? What should one pay attention to?

-Installation height of the shower channel: There are different adjustable heights available. We have a floor construction of 17 cm next to the shower area (screed, underfloor heating, etc.). Would an adjustable one from 10.5-14.5 cm be suitable for this?

-Attachment of the channels: As far as I have seen, there are some that can be screwed to the base plate and others that are fixed with the screed. Could that be? Is there experience with this as well?

-Do you have any general remarks, ideas, tips?

Thank you already for your answers!

Best regards Fabian

It is of no use to you at all if the house construction company installs a cheaper gutter you purchased, but cannot provide any warranty for it (which will be the case 99.99% of the time).

Thus, you basically have no other option than to have the gutter favored by the [GÜ] installed for the money that they will charge.

Morning

I fully agree with what mycraft wrote.
On the other hand, I would not place the channel on the concrete floor.
It does not give way. But the floating screed sinks.
Leaks at the transition are not uncommon.

Ok, thanks in advance for the answers. I will omit the sentence "von Hausbaufirma machen lassen".. That the gutter could be under tension is a good point and logical. What can I do about it? Apply a layer of screed beforehand? If yes, how much/high?

So, I have now picked out 2 shower channels:

One a bit more expensive from the hardware store:
-more expensive
-not tileable
-could be fixed to the floor (123mm - 160mm installation height*)

And one online:
-cheaper
-tileable
-could also be placed on the floor (104mm - 145mm height*)

*=(16cm/17cm floor build-up - 2cm slope = at least 140mm)

I prefer the latter. However, I don't see how I can fix/secure this to the floor. I have attached a cutout of the feet, maybe you recognize something like this?

I have also included a picture of my shower.

Thanks!

If you want to do it right, then use a Wedi shower board, it is tilable and 100% watertight when used correctly. Then you also don’t need a slope in the screed.
