Should clinker be left protruding or not? (With drawing)

Hello everyone,

the following question arises for me:

Our site manager wants to let the clinker brick protrude slightly beyond the base slab so that no water running down the clinker constantly keeps the concrete of the base slab wet. (EXAMPLE 1)

Our architect, on the other hand, is convinced to set the clinker slightly recessed because placing it "on edge" of the base slab can lead to chipping of it. In this case, the water would accumulate on the concrete of the base slab. (EXAMPLE 2)
I have only sketched the essentials in the pictures, no foils etc.
What are your opinions / experiences on this?

Hi,

My tip is: Don't listen to the site manager or the architect. Based on the drawings posted here (even if not very detailed yet) I see two nice thermal bridges....

I have done some more research, this should be better, or do you still see thermal bridges?

Hi,

yes, it’s still not perfect.

A tip for planning the insulation of a building. Draw a cross-section, take a pen and place it on the insulation. If you can draw a line along the insulation all around the building without lifting the pen, then you are on a really good track.........

But your architect should actually explain this to you and, above all, be able to plan it. The construction manager as well.

Regards

Hi E.Curb,

understood, thanks for the response..

Of course, I still have to ask this question to the architect, but right now I am keen to know how to connect the insulation under the BP with the one between the facing and backing masonry?!

Best regards!

You have to pack the foundation as well as possible.

But I see a completely different problem: The detail would have to be designed so that the connection between cladding / foundation / base slab is interrupted, if you know what I mean....
