How else do you do it? Doesn’t it usually go that way? Definitely insulate the pipe.

We forgot the insulation in one bathroom, and you can clearly hear in the bathroom below when someone flushes or showers upstairs, etc. In the middle bathroom, you hear very little from the top bathroom because we took insulation into account there (behind the drywall). In the living area... hmm... if it’s not possible otherwise due to the floor plan or the pipe layout, I would just insulate very well and live with it. There are worse things. But normally, you try to place bathrooms one above the other.

It does not necessarily have to run through the ground floor bathroom; a storage room, a possible utility room, ... just no living area is sufficient. Insulation or not... it is noticeable (usually clearly). Some are bothered by it (me, for example), others are not, it's all a matter of priorities.

I would always adjust the planning, but if it doesn’t really bother the original poster, then they should have it insulated as well as possible and then live with the remaining noises. The world won’t end because of it, I agree with that ;)

So I am really sensitive about that and in our house the wastewater pipe of the main bathroom runs through the dining area.....but we had it specially sound-insulated and now I really don’t find it disturbing at all, especially since you don’t shower or use the toilet all day....

I would find it more annoying if I had to hear the noises of the guests when they use the guest toilet while I am waiting in the dining room for them to come back....
