Hello, I am not sure if this question is posted in the right place, but I will just ask. We have attached a garage to an existing single-family house. For this garage, we are now being retroactively charged a wastewater contribution for the sewage system amounting to almost 1056,-. The house was assessed in 2004 when we had to connect to the sewage system. The carport, which was still free-standing at that time, was not assessed. Because the now built garage was constructed as an extension to the single-family house and is connected as an enclosed space (3 lockable garage doors) with the old outside side door, the garage is now retroactively assessed at the same rate as the house in 2004. - the garage produces no wastewater (no sink, no faucet) - the rainwater is collected in the old shafts (previously locked) and used for garden irrigation - it is a paved space, not insulated, so the room could be habitable - the new garage was built to replace the dilapidated carport Now the actual problem: - the municipality says that an extension is to be assessed like the house - it does not matter whether it is a conservatory, a residential extension, or a garage - the usage is irrelevant for the collection of the wastewater contribution - only the word and concept of "extension" are decisive - if we had placed the garage one meter next to the single-family house, this additional fee would not have arisen - if the garage were not closed and connected to the house, i.e., built again as an open wooden carport or as a stone shed (as now built but without garage doors), the costs would not apply - others in the town have garages of the same or larger size and do not have to pay wastewater fees for them, simply because these garages are free-standing What can I do? Honestly, I feel like I’m being taken for a ride. I have already considered submitting a change request to the district office and removing the garage doors so as not to have to pay these approx. 1000,- euros? Can they really base it on the term *extension* in our building application? Although the use of our attached garage is no different than all others (shelter for cars and workbench)??? It would be great if someone has an opinion or even better, advice for me. Thank you!
