Sodium content calculation:
Sodium content softened water (current) = (raw water hardness [°dH] - soft water hardness [°dH]) x 8.2 + sodium content raw water [mg/l] = (34 °dH - 5 °dH) x 8.2 + 12.8 mg/l = 250.6 mg/l
Normally your plumber is not allowed to put this into operation if the values of the Drinking Water Ordinance are exceeded.
I have read that there are also mineral waters that have a sodium content > 250 mg / l.
There are even mineral waters with > 1000 mg/l. But those are mineral waters and not drinking water.
Probability of 100% that salt deposits will occur.
Nothing is "salted" of course. The Cl is only used during resin bed disinfection. Na, unlike some hardness formers, does not tend to precipitate.
I am curious about your opinion on the topic and which of the 3 options you recommend.
If you do it yourself: set the system to 8 °dH. If there are no extreme hypertonics in the household and the infants receive something else, I wouldn’t worry about it.
