Sealing garage floor slab - How to seal from the sides?

Hello everyone,

the shell of the garage is finished and the first two rows of bricks are protected against rising damp with a barrier layer.

The garage is freestanding and I am now wondering whether the floor slab here also needs to be sealed on the sides with bitumen as with the house. It is not insulated here and it is not necessary, since the garage is neither heated nor part of the thermal envelope.

At our place, the base slab was also coated with (however bitumen-free) thick coating in the plinth area up to above the first row of bricks

in the first two rows of bricks are protected against rising moisture with a damping layer.

The garage is free-standing and now I wonder whether the floor slab here must also be sealed on the sides with bitumen just like the house.

I wonder why the entire floor slab was not protected against rising moisture right from the start (before pouring)? So that everything standing on the floor becomes damp?
