It is about a recently newly constructed garage. Screed was laid on the floor and decoupled from the wall with an insulation strip, as is also known from residential construction. Now my question is, if you cut off the protruding insulation strip, there is a gap of about 1 cm between the screed and the wall. How is this usually sealed? I know, in an apartment not at all, since the gap is ultimately covered by the skirting boards. But in a garage, there are no skirting boards and furthermore, rain/snow can certainly bring moisture into the garage, which could then flow into this gap. What is the common procedure here? Regards N

What kind of floor covering are you planning? It surely isn't going to stay just with the screed...

Only sealing was planned, with this hardware store stuff for garage floors.

Sika Flex AT connection or 111 Stick & Seal. There are also other manufacturers with good PU sealants & adhesives such as Ramsauer 320.

What is the common procedure? (this is the initial question)
Answer:
Screeds in garages are installed as a composite construction.
You do not need edge joints for that! If an edge strip for the screed has actually been installed, simply pull it out, clean the joint cavity (vacuum cleaner), and seal the edge joint, which has no function at all in composite screeds, with a cement-based filler or similar.

I do not fundamentally doubt that, but it surprises me.
As I understand it, a screed slab can expand, press against the walls, and cause damage. Why is it different in a garage than in living spaces?
