I have not checked the invoices now, but your consumption seems very high to me. How come?

Yes, the consumption is very high. This is regular household electricity, heat pump, and electric car. In summer, things like the pool and air conditioning in the bedroom are added. In winter, I also run a 1600W convector heater when I'm in the attic (almost daily). We also have a very high water consumption of about 200m³ because we simply shower a lot. Especially the children sometimes like to sit in the shower until the hot water tank is empty :P The heating rods then of course also consume more electricity due to the high hot water usage. Basically, there is potential for savings, that is correct. However, I currently see no need for action regarding the costs.

I cannot follow the explanations and when I see kw/h, I stop reading anyway…

I actually didn’t find any contradiction in the screenshot now. For you, it seems - now - to add up. How secure is the basic fee for the next years? Is that contractually fixed?

Especially in 2022, enbw can sell your electricity well above the feed-in tariff on the market. I don’t think that would have worked like that in 2020.

But I also see your break-even point being forced out of the electricity meter at all costs. I personally find the regular emptying of the hot water tank just for fun very questionable, and then reheating it again with the heating rod? Why?

Not to mention that the kids are shown that electricity and especially hot water are always freely available. They will later thank you in their first own apartment, after receiving their first utility bill follow-up calculation.

Of course, prices at Senec are adjusted annually as well. Just last month we also received a letter informing us that the monthly fee is being increased by €6. Compared to price increases at other providers, though, that still seems quite moderate. The provider of a colleague has now raised the basic fee from €10 to €30 per month and increased the usage price from 30 cents to 35 cents. Of course, one can discuss that and I fully agree that we have savings potential there. But it’s not as bad as it might have sounded. The kids don’t do that every time they shower; it just happens occasionally. Our two are now 8 and 4, and they like to take toys along and play while showering. I shower every morning, my wife showers every morning. With the current weather, I also shower again in the evening. That uses quite a bit of water, which then has to be reheated by the heat pump or the heating rods. And we do explain to our children that it all costs money ;) That’s true. The acquisition costs would of course disappear. With a saving of €600 per year that the storage tank would bring according to my calculation, one could say that the storage tank pays for itself after about 10 years. I have therefore calculated for myself that the storage tank would be worthwhile with a usage period of more than 10 years. Since it is often said that storage tanks are not worthwhile, it of course depends on the price of the storage tank. I think mine was just very cheap. I have no experience with maintenance costs yet. The system is now a little over 2 years old and so far no maintenance has been necessary. Actually, such a system should be maintenance-free, right? Any repairs that might occur in between would then of course have to be factored back into the calculation afterwards.

Storage capacity decreases in storage units. That should also be taken into account. Then you’re looking at 11-12 years. The question is whether the storage units last that long?
