Hello, we have just had our construction meeting and the following roofing options are available:

Roofing with Nelskamp F 7 old black clay roof tiles
engobed

or

Roofing with Nelskamp concrete roof tiles
planum black longlife matte

both are priced the same. We like the concrete roof tiles much better because of their shape, but we don’t know how durable they are or if they are prone to moss growth etc.

What are your experiences or opinions?

So we decided on clay because of the infestation by greenery, etc...

The problem with the infestation of greenery, moss, and other dirt, and thus durability, concerns the houses that the generations before us built. Nowadays, concrete roof tiles are equivalent in quality to clay. Our parents, aunts, and grandparents always mean well, but many things and opinions are nowadays "outdated" and no longer appropriate, so one should always check the myths that are told to us or what we see on older houses ourselves. After all, we build in the present with materials that are produced today. The topic of heating technology is similar: 20 years ago, solar was still unaffordable and in its infancy. But there is still the prestige thinking and then people choose clay tiles – to say: I have a clay roof, not a concrete roof.

Well, I wouldn’t agree to that... we have 6 houses here, which were built over 3 years by the same GÜ... 4 with clay, 2 with concrete

The clay roofs look like new... the concrete roofs are turning slightly greenish at the corners...

Thank you very much for your answers ... if you believe the manufacturer, the concrete blocks with Longlife are a good thing and no longer have the negative aspects attributed to concrete, I think we will choose the look and trust the "new" concrete

Hi
The surface is crucial. Natural clay develops moss just like natural concrete. Engobed or otherwise treated surfaces are better in this regard. There is a long history of experience with clay, but not so much with concrete yet. We decided on clay, engobed. And yes, in the neighboring new development area, you can see a difference between clay bricks and concrete bricks, all of which have green growth.
