Roof overhang on gable side built too small

It is mostly due to the price issue. People seem to like to say 'you don't need it, it's old-fashioned anyway' to keep the price low. In our area, many new buildings also only have eaves smaller than 30cm – compared to that, ours already has a sombrero (90cm on the eaves side, 150cm on the gable side – underneath both gable sides there is still a balcony)...

Well, I am also more in favor of generous roof overhangs and think that none or small ones just look puny. Roof overhangs are not planned for fun and games, but they protect windows and facades, and the further the overhang, the better.

I find the look without an overhang modern only in the sense that you see it like that in new residential areas, but I do not consider it 'modern' in terms of the style designation.
