Good morning everyone,
we are currently moving into the detailed planning of our single-family house city villa. Is it possible to clad the roof overhang of the city villa (wood or plastic) in such a way that the rafters can still be seen?
We are aware that the exposed rafters will presumably require more maintenance (regular painting), but since no rain should actually reach them, this should be limited.

It would be great if someone could help me, possibly even with pictures. Unfortunately, I could not find anything in the search.

Best regards

Good morning,

at that time we also definitely wanted the rafters to remain visible, and had them made that way by the carpenter. I have two pictures here that might help you.

The part that was already painted on site by the carpenter is visible later.

Our roof overhang measures one meter. Even from some distance, the rafters are still nicely visible.

I have a few more pictures of the roof frame if you need any more.

Regards Michael

Thank you very much for the quick response and the pictures.

What does the cladding look like? Is it then screwed from above onto the rafters?

This is how I find it exemplary solved. For me, a "proper" roof overhang also means that you can see a bit of construction in the roof. Otherwise, it somehow looks "pasted on".

Thank you 11ant

I have three more pictures here. Since I was not personally on site at that time and only received the pictures, I don’t know exactly what they did there. However, it looks to me as if the roofers, as you already asked, simply screwed the boards on from above. But see for yourself.

Regards
Michael

Exactly, a bit is cut off the rafter to the thickness of the board, and then the boards are nailed onto the visible part.
That's how it was done for us as well and it's more or less the standard. A cladding is usually an extra for which you have to pay.
