Hello, greetings to you all,

we really don’t know what to do anymore. It’s about the building insurance, specifically about the roof extension/shape of our house. We have now been to two independent insurance brokers and I had contact with the hotline of another insurance company, and each time a different answer comes out. We have the following “problem”:
We have a house with an offset shed roof (double shed roof), consisting of a ground floor and an upper floor. The insurance wants to know if we have a developed or undeveloped attic. Our ceilings on the upper floor run parallel to the pitch of the shed roofs. So we have no space between the upper floor ceiling and the solid roofing (tiles), apart from the space in which the insulation, foil, etc. is installed. One broker says that it is not a developed attic, the other claims it is developed, since the space under the roof pitch is our upper floor. The hotline at HUK, where I wanted to ask how they see it, is of the opinion that it is not a developed attic.

I have attached a picture: The ceiling on our upper floor looks somewhat like this.

I hope you can help me.

It is only relevant whether the room is developed for residential purposes. What is it about, the contribution calculation? Fear of being improperly insured? As complex as it sounds in your question in theory, in practice it is simply important that your house is neither underinsured nor overinsured. Depending on the provider, this can be done, for example, by determining the square meters, where the roof shape is irrelevant. So: what exactly is it about for you?

Actually, I just want to make sure that I am not incorrectly insured. If I indicate: [ausgebautes Dachgeschoss] and in the event of a claim an assessor comes and says that it is not an [ausgebautes Dachgeschoss], we will have problems... The insurance premium is not that relevant to me. For example, at HUK the non-expanded version is 24€ more expensive per year.

No.

As mentioned, this is a "marginal note", clearly specify correctly*, but what is important is the correct amount of insurance coverage, a "normal" insurance advisor will do this with you in 10 minutes.

*In many calculation programs you will have to select as shown in the sketch attached, just specify the appropriate one, "4" stands for flat roof, if you have the classic take "1", etc...
In the second step of this example program, the living area is then divided, done.
