Reasonably insulated floor with underfloor heating (15-16 cm build height)

Hey guys

First of all, I have to say that this is a really good forum. I've been reading along for a while now but now I also have a question myself.

How would you build a proper insulated floor structure with underfloor heating? Total build-up height including floor covering 16 cm.

It's about a floor on the ground floor above an unheated basement.

Actually, I thought that 18 cm build-up was planned for the ground floor but in the heat of the moment I overlooked that only 15 cm was planned by the architect.

What can I say? Windows and doors are installed. Partly floor-to-ceiling. So I have to manage with the 16 cm (measured).

Are there any possibilities to get more out of it? Screed must be at least 65 mm thick (20 mm underfloor heating + 45 mm coverage).

Could one, in an extreme case if necessary, insulate the basement ceiling from below? Does that make sense?

I hope you can help me out a bit.

Best regards Chris

why do you have to do that? If someone made a mistake, they should provide the solution. Apart from that, yes, you can insulate the basement from below, but it probably won't be necessary.

First of all, thanks for the reply. Well, it's not really a mistake. The architect just calculated with 15cm buildup. I thought it was 18cm in the ground floor and 15cm in the 1st floor and attic. In the plan, 15cm is included. So it's because I overlooked that and now it has been executed that way. The architect says 15cm is enough. Now I just want to get the best out of it. Best regards, Chris

Then there must be a planned floor structure for the 15cm that should fit...?

Hi,
was the underfloor heating planned from the beginning? Then your architect should be able to answer that question.
We added an underfloor heating in the basement during the construction phase, and we only had 15 cm available.
Instead of the usual 6 cm insulation under the underfloor heating, we used 3 or 4 cm, but some material that insulates better. Don’t ask me the name. Then 3 cm hook-and-loop board with pipes, 7 cm screed, and 1.5 cm laminate including impact sound insulation. That makes about 15-16 cm.

Best regards,
Andreas
