Hello everyone,

The positioning of our house and the topography of the surrounding property require us to raise our terrace by about 40 cm, at least if we want to access the terrace from our living room at ground level. This means that we / the landscaper will proceed as follows:

- Foundation + retaining wall of the terrace with planter boxes or similar (height approx. 40 cm) in a U-shape
- Graveling and compacting the terrace surface (width 7 m + depth 3.5 m)
- Laying the slabs on gravel

Now my question:

At the wall connection (which is about 10 cm below the base), the landscaper only wants to lay a dimpled membrane that prevents the gravel from directly touching the house wall (no basement). Is this sufficient, or does an additional waterproofing (apart from the base coat) need to be applied or installed?

Thanks for your opinions.

Best regards
Grobi

Plaster or clinker facade?
Wall structure with which insulation?
How high was the Z-foil and window sealing raised on the masonry cavity?

Dimpled membrane does not seal, but primarily protects a seal from mechanical forces. The sauce runs in at the top without a drip edge; dimpled membrane on the ground if ventilation is not important.

For clinker, I would use sealing slurry or 2K bitumen thick coating. EPDM foil with adhesive is also extremely durable and quick to install, but not cheap.

If it was built correctly, the mason should have applied a waterproof slurry twice about 50cm high under the base plaster. On the stone from the floor up. K.

Wall structure 42.5cm insulating stone, without external insulation with plaster facade
The foil was pulled up to the height of the bottom edge of the window, meaning it would cover the backfilled area.

That was done, but not by the mason, rather by the plasterer

See. That way you can trust the garden landscaper.
