Good morning everyone,

in the next few weeks I want to tackle building the terrace. For this, I want to concrete in shuttering blocks on the compacted ground ([Muss noch 30cm höher kommen]) and also fill with concrete. On top of that the substructure, and on top of that the terrace boards. For the boards, I have chosen Douglas fir. It is untreated. Should it be painted or oiled directly?
For the substructure, I wanted to use pressure-treated pine. Is that okay or should I also use Douglas fir here? But I can only get it untreated and that seems a bit too vulnerable for me.

Best regards
Tobias

Then please also think about weed fabric, pads (so that the substructure does not stand in water on the stones), as well as constructive moisture protection for the decking boards. For the substructure, I would exclusively use suitable hardwood that does not weather as quickly as Douglas fir or pine do (e.g. Bangkirai or Bongossi). But why such an elaborate construction with shuttering blocks? Simply buy cheap planting rings on eb... (classifieds) or have them given away. Then simply align them in a small concrete bed on the ground and that’s that. Alternatively, for example, fill KG pipes with concrete. For amateurs, there are plenty of cost-effective and simple possibilities. Last weekend, I laid our substructure on mortar bags (= freezer bags).

As pads, I will use roofing felt.

KG pipes are a cool solution. I'm considering it! However, it must be about 20-25 cm high (without substructure and floorboards).

Hardwood is mostly tropical wood, and I don't want that. Especially since it costs almost twice as much, and theoretically, I can just redo everything after 10-15 years.
