Protect windows during the construction phase, but how?

Hello everyone,

we are certainly not the only ones whose windows are installed shortly after the shell construction. After that, a number of other trades follow, and there is a high risk that the new windows (both the frames, as well as the glass and seals) will be significantly damaged.

Does anyone have good tips and preferably experience with methods to protect the window frames and glass panes? Many products are said to, for example, not be UV resistant and/or later leave stains on the frames or panes, etc.

Thanks for your help!

No, the risk is not great. So no special protective measures are necessary.

Then you were very lucky. In four out of four surveyed builders and also with our architects themselves, all the windows were damaged during the construction process: - scratched aluminum frames, nobody wants to have done it - crack in the glass (presumably dropped tools) - sprinkler and stains from plaster, mortar, roof primer, etc. (the frame had to be replaced because removing the mortar also severely damaged it) - rubber seal completely dusty and covered with paint spots, only replacement helped

So the question is addressed to people who have tips for some good protection.

Unusual. Building is my job. I finance construction sites with up to 1,000 windows without defects. I have also not heard of any issues in our private sector – and in 20 years have not seen any "protective measures." Front door and stairs: yes. Windows: no

As said, the descriptions and experiences from our environment are different. Also: better to be protected once too often and it was not necessary, than the other way around. Very simple, but unbeatable logic.

Does anyone have tips?

With us, only the cleaner(s) taped the windows with foil, which also makes sense. Otherwise, the protective foils were simply on until the final cleaning. We have no scratches or anything like that.
