One should regularly ventilate every room where humidity can develop or increase (primarily through people, but also plants, aquariums, etc.). It is NOT sufficient to look at the hygrometer and say "oh 40% RH, so I don't need to ventilate at all." Because those devices only measure the RH at one point, namely where they are located. However, RH can be different in every corner of the room. There was once a case where mold developed in a bedroom despite daily shock ventilation (windows open, door open, cross-ventilation) because the airflow only passed narrowly through the room and the air in the entire room was not exchanged. With a fan that was additionally turned on during the ventilation, the problem was solved after 1 week.
