Hello everyone,

Eaves boards at the roof overhang, how have you carried these out?

We were offered plastic as an alternative to wood. With wood I know that I have to paint it every few years. How is it with plastic? I am afraid that it will turn yellow or that it looks cheap. Therefore the question what you have chosen?

We faced the same question and decided on wood. Even though you have to paint the wood every few years, it looks nice and new afterwards. If the plastic should fade due to UV radiation, you can't just paint over it...

Hello.

I personally find wood more stylish, as plastic looks too artificial to me. ( sometimes it appears greasy and shiny, which I personally do not like. ) I like it when the grain of the wood shows through.

The painting should also be kept within limits, as the wood is only exposed to the weather to a limited extent.

Ultimately, it is a matter of taste & price. Although I cannot imagine that plastic should be much cheaper than profiled boards with tongue & groove.

Best regards.

Wood is wood and plastic is plastic! Many are currently weighing the options instead of choosing wood, opting for plastic because plastic is said to be easier to maintain/does not need to be painted. But I would always choose the natural product – the feel, the touch of naturalness... always choose the natural option, as long as it is affordable.

Hello,

our boards under the roof overhang are not painted but varnished.

That won't last forever either, but hopefully significantly longer than "normally" painted boards.

Regards,

Dirk

Often it is not only the profile boards but also rafters or purlins that are visible. These then also need to be painted from time to time, unless they are also covered with plastic.
