Hello everyone,

as a non-professional in plumbing, I have a question whether someone is familiar with this or knows a solution for the following problem.

I bought new bathroom furniture including a washbasin etc. at a furniture store and the items were delivered by the mentioned company and installed by their in-house technicians including the water connection of the washbasin. Unfortunately, the technician/installer had considerable problems attaching the drain to the washbasin because he couldn’t properly assemble the parts and didn’t know how – supposedly a new type of drain.

Unfortunately, there is now a smell coming from the drain at warmer temperatures. It is a washbasin WITHOUT overflow and as far as I can tell, there is no proper siphon. (Before we had a different washbasin with a siphon and there was no issue with unpleasant odors). You can also clearly hear noises from the pipe when a neighbor one floor above drains water from their washbasin and it rushes through the pipe.

I now have the feeling that the connection between the washbasin and the drain pipe in the wall is not covered by water anywhere (as in a siphon), so that noises from the pipe travel through the connecting pipe from the washbasin drain into the bathroom.

I am uploading two pictures to at least illustrate the matter from the outside.

Can someone tell me what is missing here or what was incorrectly installed, insofar as this can be deduced from the pictures.

Thank you and best regards Gregor

I'm afraid the siphon is missing. How is a trap supposed to ensure odor prevention there? Since you had it installed, I would have the company come back and inspect it. I probably wouldn't accept it like that.

Hi,

that's also correct. I complained about it and the company will come by soon. However, I don't trust those gentlemen because they worked on the connection for about an hour and that's the result. The fact is, there is almost no space under the sink to install a siphon anywhere, which makes me suspicious. And I just can't imagine completely omitting a siphon - due to the consequences now occurring.

So before the company comes again, I want to inform myself first.

Regards Gregor

A siphon in cylindrical design might possibly work there.

This is not a professional installation!

It should look like the picture below.

Google flat surface-mounted siphon. That is what you will need.
